The Windstone
Main story quest
The pirates won't give up the WindStone for gold, but their leader, Basil, will trade it for something he wants more.
Basil's Price
On Pirate Island, everyone has heard of the WindStone, and they send you to Basil. He wants Darkbeard’s magic sextant, which can steer a ship through any reef, and will trade the WindStone for it. Darkbeard is a brigand the pirates have fallen out with, and he hides in a cave on the island.
Find the Cave
The cave is down a carefully built hole west of the town. You only find a reason to go down once Basil has asked you.
Darkbeard's Cave
Darkbeard and his crew wait in the cave. Kill him, and his key opens the chest (C), which holds the sextant and 500 gold (1). The cave also holds a Health Elixir (2), 25 gold (3), a Studded Leather Helm (4), and a Really Thick Shirt (5).
The Trade
Basil takes the sextant and hands over the WindStone. Ring the bell on the dock to sail back to Hans-Dirk’s Keep.
Return the WindStone
Hans-Dirk tells you something he should not know, that your guild has had dealings with The Rein. For more, he sends you to Lord Matthias, who is at war with The Rein; a pass through the mountains near Hafen leads to his keep. Continue with Curing Matthias’s Troops.
The party's journal
The pirates do not want to give up the Windstone. The only object of higher value to them is the magic sextant. If we can wrest it from Darkbeard, Basil will make us a trade.
The trade was made and we have the WindStone.
We obtained the WindStone from the pirates. Now to give it to Hans-Dirk.
Hans-Dirk now has the WindStone. He has found some information on The Rein that might be useful. It seems our guild has been dealing with The Rein in secret. This seems unlikely, but we must find out more. Lord Matthias may be able to help us more.
Matthias is currently at war against The Rein. That might put him on our side and he may be able to help us figure out why The Rein is after us.
