Curing Matthias's Troops

Main story quest

Lord Matthias is besieged by The Rein, and his troops are dying of their wounds. He will help you if you help him break the siege, and first he needs medicine.

Through the Pass

The pass to Matthias’s keep starts at a tower in the mountains south-west of Hafen. Pound on the tower door and swear to help Matthias against The Rein, and the guard lets you through. The keep is to the east.

Meet Matthias

The Rein has Matthias’s keep under siege. He tried to close the pass to its troops, and the fighting cost him most of his army. Help him break the siege and he will help you, but first his wounded need a potion from the healer in Nanten. Avoid The Rein’s troops when you leave; they attack anyone going to or from the keep.

Caeron the Healer

Caeron, the healer in Nanten, needs a Fuhran plant to make the potion. It grows only in the Darkwood Caverns, in the Darkwoods east and north of Zephyr, and both the forest and the caverns have been corrupted and are full of dangerous creatures.

The Darkwoods

The way into the caverns is a hole in the ground in the Darkwoods. The party will only go down once Caeron has told you about it.

The ladder comes down in the south-east. The hole down to the lower level is in the north-west. Along the way are 414 gold (1), Studded Leather Leggings (2), and a Magic Elixir (3).

The Lower Level

You come down in the east. The hole down to the underground lake is in the far north-east. A Minor Battle Cap (1) and an Initiate Robe (2) lie along the way.

The Underground Lake

Here the cavern opens to the sky, and plants grow by the water. The Fuhran plant (F) is at the far north end. Pull it up and head back.

The Potion

Caeron presses the plant into a Fuhran Leaf potion; only a drop is needed to heal. Take it to Matthias. His troops saved, he turns to breaking the siege, and for that he needs Lord Brightblade. Continue with Brightblade’s Diversion.

The party's journal

Matthias has agreed to help us if we can help him end the siege threatening his keep. The first step is to find medical supplies for his troops. We must seek out the healer in Nanten.

We found Caeron the Healer. He says he needs the Fuhran plant to make a potent healing potion needed to save Matthias's ailing soldiers. It can only be found in the Darkwood Caverns.

The Fuhran plant was growing near an underground lake in the caverns. We must return it to Caeron to make the potion.

Caeron has given us the potion to deliver to Matthias.

The potion should save Matthias's troops, but he needs additional help to break the siege. We must seek an alliance with Brightblade, lord of an island to the south.
