The latest build in the new version of DA2 has been available for over a week, but I thought I'd officially announce it in the news. It is mostly playable now, which is good. You can find it by clicking here. I've also updated the link section with a new webiste, Orbital Cows, where everyone can find tons of other games to play.

Well, it's been years since the last update. It seems the migration to Vista will never be complete, but Windows 7 will probably change that. As a result, DA2 needs porting yet again to keep up with the modern operating systems - so much for backwards compatibility, right? Because I'm starting all over from scratch, I'm making several changes to the game interface. You can sample what's done so far by clicking here. It is not a finished game. Many things don't work yet because they have not been programmed yet. You can read more about the new version in the forum.

I'll start updating the website over the next few months. Most of it will remain the same because the content is still relevant, but I need to update the links and start expanding the wiki. Other players can contribute to the wiki as well. It can be found here.

The new patch is out. It fixes only a few minor bugs and provides a better menu interface when hitting the ESC key while playing. It also fixes an old crash bug that happens rarely. If you downloaded the game after July 15, then you should already be at version 1.2. You only need to upgrade if the version number in the bottom-left corner of the title screen does not say 1.2.

EvilMrHenry has developed a python RPG game/engine. To test the modular game features, he completely remade DA1 from scratch! It's not the first time such was attempted, but it is the first time that the feat has been completed. I put links up in the fansites and links sections, but you can also get to his page from here.

The site update is long overdue, but here it is. The biggest change is the Archived news section. I put all the old 2005 news posts in there. Also, although it's very quiet on the website, I'm still around. I don't actually disappear, it's just that since the game is finished, there's not much to post. But feel free to hang out in the forum or send along some email. Also, the next game patch will be released soon.

Well, despite YaBB's claim to have an update soon, there has been none for eight months (heh, may sound familiar to regulars here :). The update was supposed to have spambot protection, but since the update does not exists, and spambots do exist, I've had to take more drastic measures. There is no longer guest posting and all new users will have to supply a valid email address to receive a password. This has reduced the amount of bot spams by about 99.99993%. Sadly, it also discourages casual visitors from posting their comments and questions, and board traffic has dwindled recently. I apologize for the inconveniences, but please try not to get discouraged from using the forum. New members are welcome and appreciated!

The patch is in the download section. It is self-extracting, just run the file and it will do the rest. I also updated the main game file, so if you downloaded and installed DA2 after March 11, then you are already updated. The version number on the title screen should read 1.1 if you have the most recent version. Changes in the update are listed below.

  • Fixed journal entries for the Pirate Ship and Wilt's Quest.
  • Fixed the dwarf mine bridge.
  • Fixed battle damage calculations.
  • Fixed incorrect battle background scenery for several battles.
  • Fixed a bug allowing the player to change from the first Madigan quest to the Rein Camp south of Erond's Plain quest.
  • Shelf in the lower library levels is now highlighted.
  • Fixed a world map water misalignment.
  • Fixed several typos.

The forum is working again. I still don't know exactly what was going wrong, but the server was upgraded and the problem disappeared. At least, it has disappeared as far as I can see. I haven't gotten any errors after about 30 minutes of usage. I'll have more updates to the site soon, including a news archive to shorten this rather lengthy webpage and the latest bug patch to the game.

Since upgrading to YaBB 2.1, the forum has progressively degenerated into Internal Server Errors. These errors are intermittent, but occurring more frequently. I really don't have any idea what is causing them, but I'll do my best to get rid of them in the next several days. If I have to, I'll wipe out the forum and start again from scratch. If you get one of the errors, just keep hitting the refresh button on the browser and it will eventually work.

I am working on a patch to fix a few of the remaining bugs that I missed during the beta phase. I will be testing it privately, but it should be ready by the end of the month.
