Wilthanur's Tower
Main story quest
Only Wilthanur, a reclusive dwarf mage, can fit the saghure into the sceptre, and his tower is guarded by illusions.
The Ground Floor
The tower is east of Tristen. Its door (M) has a magic lock, which opens for your mage once Okyon has sent you. Inside, a note (N) reads: “Do not trust what you can see.” Walls that seem strange are illusions you can walk through. A golem in the north (L) is only an illusion too: beat it and it becomes a lever, and pulling the lever opens the doors to the golem hiding the ladder up (U).
Optional: The Fire
The fire (F) gives off no heat. Reach into it to pull a hidden lever, which opens a side room with Wilthanur’s book, The Art of Illusion, and a chest that is really another golem.
The Second Floor
Three golems here hide levers, and each lever works two doors. Beat the golem nearest the ladder you came up (A) and pull its lever, then do the same for the golem to the east (B), then the one to the south (C). That opens the way to the ladder up. Magic Leggings (1) and Magic Boots (2) lie in the north.
The Third Floor
The golems here are not illusions. Fight your way past them to the ladder up in the middle. A Magic Helm (1) is hidden among the wine bottles nearby.
Wilthanur
Wilthanur is furious that you broke in, until he sees what you’ve brought. He fits the saghure into Greyor’s sceptre, and explains what Greyor is after. The life force behind all magic is itself alive, and The Rift is the mages’ ancient attempt to control it; if Greyor masters it, he will control all the magic of Engel. Channel magic through the saghure and the sceptre will open a link to The Rift. Wilthanur’s portal takes you out of the tower. Continue with The Final Battle.
The party's journal
Getting up Wilthanur's tower wasn't easy, and Wilthanur wasn't pleased to see us. After some explaining, he agreed to attach the saghure to the sceptre. He also helped explain Greyor's motives. The life force, the source of all energy that gives life, is a conscious entity. We manipulate it by using magic, but it is fighting back. The Rift was created to completely control this life force. If Greyor gets control of it, he will control all the magic in the world, perhaps even all the life energy. We must hurry back and tell the Resistance.
