- Save your game often! To help with the process, you can use F1 to quicksave and F5 to
quickload. But even better is to save in multiple places. DA2 allows you to save under
10 different game slots, so use all of them! That way if your last save leaves you in
a difficult position, you can use a previous save to restart at a better spot.
- DA2 has lots of keyboard commands. Read the manual to find out what the many
keys and features are.
- Train all attributes for all characters, but focus on the characters' specialties. It helps
to train your mage with strength (for hitpoints), but train a lot of intelligence. Your fighter
does best with a lot of strength, but a few points of agility will make him harder to be hit.
And your thief may not seem to benefit from agility early on, but she will be an awesome
fighting force once her agility reaches really high levels. For maximum benefit, your thief's
agility should be equal to her strength.
- Always carry extra health and magic elixirs.
- There are many items hidden in the game. Some can be found by holding down the TAB key while
playing. Even if found items are not useful to equip, they can be worth some cash.
- You can force a battle by pressing the 'B' key while in a dungeon or cave.
- Arena's are a great way to gain a few extra experience points, but they are costly. Minimize
your trips to the arena by solving the subquests.
- You can change the difficulty of the game from the options menu on the player stat screens.
Lowering the difficulty gives you more XP and monsters have fewer hit points. This allows
the characters to rise in levels sooner. Raising the difficulty gives the monsters and
unfair advantage.
- The world of Engel is huge. Learn to use the portals to travel, and always carry a few extra
portal stones.
- Intelligence speeds the rate at which characters can use their special skills. The rate caps
when intelligence reaches 50, so there is no need to continue raising it for the warrior or
thief.
- The journal is an excellent aid to the game. Use it often (by pressing the 'J' key). Entries
are recorded automatically, so if you talk to an NPC that wants you to solve a quest, the
details are recorded in your journal.
- Do not neglect to protect your characters. Raise their armor level as much as possible with
better equipment found or bought in the game. Remember, there are up to eight different places
on your character that could provide a defensive benefit.
- Not all inns and trainers charge the same prices. Whenever possible go to the cheapest places
to save money.
