Foes in Engel |
 |
|
 |
|
|
There are numerous foes that hardy adventurers will encounter
in their exploration of Engel. Below are a select few of those foes. There is
a brief description and range of difficulty associated with each.
|
|
|
Dragons are the most feared of all the natural creatures on Engel.
They are dangerous when small cubs, and outright deadly when fully grown. Dragons are winged
and capable of flight. They tend to nest in high places such as mountain roosts, but some are
reared from birth to live among the Reptilman. Dragons are notorious for hoarding shiny metal
objects and gold. Many a brave warrior has lost his life hunting dragons for their treasure troves.

Goblins are short, humanoid creatures with a disposition to taunt and bite. They are considered scavangers
of human societies and make use of abandoned settlements or their belongings. Goblins prefer to stay
away from humans, but occassionally make raids on small villages when they feel bored or
greedy. Goblin society is simple - each tribe has a king, and everyone else is equally below the king.
Dark goblins are known to be the more aggressive of the tribes encountered.

Orcs first appeared on Engel over 500 years ago. They were created by Greyor to serve him in combat as he eradicated the elves from his continent.
Once he was isolated, Greyor set them free on the human lands where they roamed in raiding parties. After The Reunification, mankind prospered and drove the orcs
from their lands. They retreated to the hills and mountains and dug themselves caves. Although "civilized" must be used loosely to describe orcs, they are no
longer considered openly hostile. Instead, they keep to themselves, and in some cases trade with humans. Most have learned to speak the human language and are
considered intelligent. However, caution should always be maintained, and one should do their best not to upset them.

Little is known about the Reptilman. There are no records of when they first appeared or where they came from. They are considered highly
intelligent, and have a complex culture. Reptilman are skilled in masonry and metal working, but perhaps their most unique skill is mastery over dragons.
None of the unified races has successfully raised a dragon, but the Reptilman train them from birth to be workers, warriors, and in some cases pets. Most
Reptilman are not hostile to humans, but they do not initiate contact and become angered by intrusion.

Soldiers and warriors often die in battle. Sometimes their spirits are not allowed to leave thier corpses, usually due to magic
intervention. These corpses become reanimated and continue fighting, even after their flesh has rotted off their bones. They are known simply as skeletons,
and a wise adventurer would avoid them at all costs.

|
|
Trolls may seem large and oafish, but they are in fact quite intelligent. They are the
second largest of the humanoid races, and live in large clans. Their knowledge of astral forces are very advanced
and many an unwitting adventurer has discovered too late the power of a Troll Shaman.
