Seven years in development and it's finally done. Here is the full version of the game. Thanks to everyone over the years who tested the game, wrote their support, and helped build the DKS community. You can get the full version in the download section.

Here is what should be the last release candidate!!! The game should be final before Christmas. Please, please, please find the last of the bugs!!! Post them in the forum in the DA2 section. You don't need to make an account, you can post as a guest. In my latest pass through the game, I made it from beginning to end without the need to use an arena or any stat building potions on difficulty level 3, so the balance is great (thanks much to the testers!). The latest version details are below.

  • MAJOR: Fixed passage ways between maps below Castle Garrison. No more getting uselessly lost.
  • MAJOR: Fixed bug preventing completion of the Unschuld tunnel quest.
  • MAJOR: Fixed several journal crashing bugs.
  • MAJOR: Fixed several player skills.
  • Minor: Fixed a few NPC scripts.
  • Minor: Fixed bugs were items on the ground would not match those added to the inventory when picked up.
  • Minor: More minor battle balancing.

Better than ever, here's the next release candidate! Rules for using the latest version are the same as the last - completely uninstall your previous version, then install RC3 into the same folder. This version is compatible with all previous release candidates, so you can continue your games. Fixes and features are listed below.

  • MAJOR: Portals are now linked on the journal map! You'll notice the portal button near the navigation arrows. Portals appear as small circles. Once you've opened both ends of linked portals, a line shows where you will travel. Figuring out the shortest way between two points should be much easier now.
  • MAJOR: Pain spell was causing overflows.
  • MAJOR: Fixed several Dead Forest quest bugs.
  • MAJOR: Fixed Hunting Lodge journal bugs (severe!).
  • MAJOR: Fixed Wilt's Wife journal bug (severe!).
  • Minor: Fixed the last of the Pagan missing scripts.
  • Minor: Fixed several typos and grammatical errors (as always).
  • Minor: Some battle balancing - you'll notice a slight improvement in damage at higher levels.

The next release candidate is out. It fixes a lot of huge bugs! I'm somewhat surprised that I found so many major bugs, yet only a handful of minor bugs were reported. Oh well, I guess nobody heard about that cash reward for every bug found. ;) The important points are listed below, and keep on posting those bug reports in the forum!

  • MAJOR: Thief character stat changes! Multiple hits now occur sooner. The optimal ratio of strength to agility is now 1:1. This means that you get the most average damage having equal strength and agility
  • MAJOR: Companion finished! Yay!
  • MAJOR: Fixed Trost Murder quest; it works again.
  • MAJOR: Fixed many missing random battles on several maps.
  • Minor: Updated some battle backgrounds and item images.
  • Minor: Fixed several typos and grammatical errors.
  • Minor: Added some map decorations where needed.

YaBB 2 was released last week and I was able to get it up and running. Amazingly, it converted AND fixed the errors of the old board. Excellent work by the YaBB 2 authors! The default color scheme is so bright and cheerful it causes nausea, but I'll work on some alternate templates in the next week or so. People should be able to choose their favorite colors in their profiles once I get it working right.

Another milestone overcome in the process of getting this game finished! All the links in the menu now lead to a page. Sorry it took so long to finish up the Foes, but I decided to take the information directly from the Dark Ages II Companion, which is still under revision. I hope to have the companion finished around the end of the week and included in the next release candidate.

Out with the old, in with the new. Here's the latest Dark Ages II Logo. This will compile with the next version and will also be included in the main folder for people to use on their desktop, on their ObjectDock, or on their fanpage. If you're using it on the web, please save it to your own website rather than linking my URL. It's definitely a lot better than the old logo, but it's nothing great. If you can do better, post it in the forum and maybe it will replace this one.

Finally to the release candidate stage! I've finished adding the NPCs, and fixed the bugs from the last release (well, those few that were reported). The battle backgrounds are finished. There are probably several lingering bugs, and those need to be caught here before I can declare the game finished. Please catch them, I want to be done with this one! :)

Well, the new page has been available for a week now and nobody has complained that it doesn't work. So I'm releasing it in conjunction with the release candidate. There is still some content under construction that I hope to finish in the next week or two. Enjoy!

It's been, let's see here..., 5 years since the last webpage change. Way too long. So, with the release of DA2 just around the corner, I thought I'd put in a new webpage. A bit sparse compared to the last one, but a bit more modern, too. Dark Ages II: Engel is still the focus of the page. And the frames are gone, so there's no need for the splash page anymore. Sorry this one is none too flashy, but, as I've said for years, I'm not an artist. YaBB2 is almost ready (within a month or so) and then the forum will get an update.

Bleh, I know, advertising. But it was time. As most of the regulars here know, I've spent a lot of money over the years to provide free content. I'm back in school now, and poorer than ever, and while I could cram the page full of advertising, instead I have AdWords. They're, in my opinion, the least obtrusive, and I hope only to cover my costs, not make any money. To stave off the usual emails I get whenever I bring up the topic of cost of running a website, no I will not switch to a free web domain. They're terrible. Poor storage space, poor bandwidth limits, etc. They usually have advertising I cannot control and is much more dentrimental to the site than anything I would consider. And even if I could avoid a lot of these issues, free space disappears without warning and my site would be in limbo. Where I'm at has worked great for years, and I'm keeping it. Besides, I think the AdWords add a bit of professionalism to the page, and they're at least content relevant.

Beta version 1.2.0 was missing the updated DA2DX.exe executable; it had the old one. Version 1.3.0 was released that contains the intended version.

Beta version 1.2.0 is out. This was supposed to be the release candidate, but it is not. Too many huge bugs in the last version made it too difficult for people to complete the game. This version fixes and updates the journal system. It also fixes the disappearing spell bug. Dozens of new magic items are in the game, as well as many new rewards in general on the quests. A few NPCs have been added, and some of the towns have been updated a bit. If you try playing a bugged game from the last version, it might work now, or you might have to start over.
